NYC Composting Guidelines Effective October 2024

New York City Composting Update Effective October 2024
The NYC Dept of Sanitation instituted new guidelines for composting. As of October 2024, curbside composting is MANDATORY to all Staten Island residents. Compost will be collected weekly on Wednesday, your recycling day. By April 2025, DSNY plans on issuing fines to homeowners that do not comply with the new sanitation law.

How to Compost:
● All composting waste is to be placed in a clear plastic bag or brown bag.
● DO NOT place any composting garbage down the garbage chutes. All composting garbage is to be placed in the DSNY brown compost bin that is located right outside the compactor room on the lobby level.
