In 2019, NYC passed Local Law 97 to achieve certain reductions in greenhouse gas emissions. The law requires many buildings that exceed 25,000 square feet to meet certain emissions limits. There are currently 3 phases with each phase become more strict. The first phase runs from 2024 through 2029. Our building is currently in compliance with the emission limits required for this phase according to the NYC Accelerator Building Energy Snapshot.

As you’ll see in the above report, we don’t currently meet the emission limits require for the second phase, which runs from 2030 through 2034. NYC will penalize buildings that don’t meet these limits at the rate of $268.00 per metric ton of carbon emissions that exceed the limits required by the law. The Highview II Board of Managers is working to devise a plan that will bring us into compliance for phase 2 and beyond.
